Just wanted to let you know that we have extended the deadline for the Writers Assistant Network fellowship that was launched at the beginning of the year. The new deadline is Monday, February 1st.
To recap, WAN will be hosting a workshop-style writers group this spring in coordination with over a dozen agents and managers from top agencies and management companies — and they are specifically looking for talented writers who are already working on support staffs, ie a lot of the people on this list!
Participants will meet the reps at the beginning of the twelve-week session, then develop scripts with feedback from the other writers in the group. In the second half of the session, working writers will also be brought in to give feedback. Final scripts will be read at the end of the session by all of the participating agents and managers, who will be considering the writers for signing.
To ensure a fair application process, The Writers Assistant Network has also partnered with Stage 32 Happy Writers, whose professional readers will assess the applicants’ submissions. There is a small application fee to pay for all the readers.
There are two ways to apply:
1) WAN Eligibility
WAN applicants must, at the time of their application, be working in the writers’ office of a WGA-signatory show (including Script Coordinators, Writers Assistants, Executive Assistants, and Writers PAs), OR working for a writer who has an active project (ie a project for which she or he is getting paid) with a studio or network. (All applicants work status will be verified.) In deference to our agency and management partners, who are looking for unrepresented or underrepresented writers, applicants must not have both an agent and a manager at the time of application. Having one or the other is fine, just not both.
8 of the 10 spots in the program are reserved for applicants who meet the WAN eligibility requirements — and you can apply here. If you don’t meet those requirements, don’t worry: There’s another way in.
2) Stage 32 Eligibility
WAN’s partner Stage 32 is looking for two talented, collaborative, and passionate TV writers to take the remaining two seats. They will be choosing one writer who lives in or around LA and one writer from anywhere in the world (who will be participating in the sessions virtually). You do not have to be currently working on a TV show to be qualified for one of these two seats.
Stage 32 applicants can apply here.
Winners will be announced at the end of February and the group will start meeting in early March. The group will meet Sunday evenings for 12 weeks from approximately 7:00 PM PST – 11:00 PM PST. At your first group, you will meet all of the participating executives, as well as your fellowship writing peers. Each week you will work with your group to develop your pilot. During the second half of the 12 weeks, you will also be mentored by working TV writers and writer-producers. At the end of the 12 weeks, you will present your finished product to the executives for representation consideration.
We’ve spent a lot of time and effort putting together this opportunity, and we couldn’t me more excited about it. Break a leg on your submissions!
Thanks very much,
Brandon Tanori & Joel Silberman
